Salmon-Safe Certified Beers

SALMON-SAFE CERTIFIED BEERS

At Aslan, we aim to source ingredients that are not only high in quality but also environmentally responsible. As you probably know, almost all of our beers since the beginning are USDA certified organic. Another initiative that we aim for is using Salmon-Safe ingredients.

Salmon-Safe certified ingredients, like hops or malt, are grown in ways that protect local watersheds and the habitats of salmon. Salmon-Safe certification requires farmers to manage their land in a way that reduces the use of harmful chemicals, and reducing runoff pollution and soil erosion thus improving water quality and preserves biodiversity. This commitment to sustainable farming practices not only supports the ecosystem but also results in fresh, clean ingredients that enhance the flavor of the beer.

Breweries that prioritize Salmon-Safe ingredients are actively contributing to the protection of waterways, particularly in regions like the Pacific Northwest, where salmon populations play a vital role in the environment and local culture. The use of Salmon Safe ingredients is building new momentum for ecologically sustainable and climate resilient farming practices in Northwest wild salmon watersheds like Yakima, the Snake River, and the Willamette Valley. With more than 90 percent of US hops sourced from these watersheds, choosing Salmon-Safe beer makes a direct contribution to restoring important waterways and native fish.

For beer drinkers like you, choosing a brew made with Salmon-Safe ingredients is a small but impactful way to support sustainable agriculture and help protect our ecosystem. Each year, we release at least one beer that uses Salmon-Safe ingredients per quarter. Fish Have Feelings is one of those beers.

Fish Have Feelings is a smooth West Coast IPA that uses Salmon-Safe hops from Roy Farms in Yakima. The initial sips bring hop flavors of apricot, candied strawberries, and orange marmalade to pair with the grainy, biscuity malt characters. As you dive deeper the piney and more resinous flavors come out and you're greeted by a pleasant, lingering bitterness.

Next time you join us for a beer, look for the little Salmon Safe logo on our cans, or ask your bartender if any of our beers on tap are Salmon-Safe Certified. Whether you're enjoying a hoppy IPA like Fish Have Feelings, or a smooth Amber like Earth To Beer, knowing that your beer was crafted with care for both flavor and the environment adds a deeper layer of satisfaction to every sip!
